ಸಹಜ ನಗ್ನತೆ ನಮಗೆ, ಸಹಜ ನಖದಾಡಿಗಳು |
ಬಹುಯುಗದ ಸಂಸ್ಕಾರ ವಸ್ತ್ರ ಸಿಂಗಾರ ||
ಸಹಜತೆ ನಿರಕ್ಷರತೆ, ವಿದ್ಯೆ ತಾಂ ಕೃತಕವಲ |
ಸಹಜದಿನೆ ಕೃತಕಮುಂ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ||


sahaja nagnate namage, sahaja nakha daaDigaLu |
bahuyugada samskaara vastra singaara ||
sahajate nirakSharate, vidye taam kRutakavala |
sahajidine kRutakamum - mankutimma ||

Natural is nakedness to us, natural are nails and beards.
Ages of refinement have evolved clothing and decorations.
Natural is illiteracy, to be educated is then artificial.
From the natural, evolves the artificial - Mankutimma.

  1. Translator's thoughts: The poet's characteristic organic world view is well indicated in this Kagga. His pragmatism of looking at the artificial as being evolved from the natural speaks volumes about his very broad perspective.
