ಅಹುದು ಬಾಳ್ ಭಂಡತನವಿಹದಿ ಬಾಳ್ ಮುಗಿಯುವೊಡೆ |
ಕಹಿಯೊಗರು ಕಾಯಿ, ಮಿಡಿತನದೊಳದು ಮುಗಿಯೆ ||
ಸಿಹಿಯಹುದು ಕಾಯಿ ಹಣ್ಣಾಗೆ, ಜೀವಿತವಂತು |
ಮಹಿಮೆಗೊಳುವುದು ಮಾಗೆ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ||


ahudu baaL bhanDatanavihadi baaL mugiyuvoDe |
kahiyogaru kaayi, miDitanadoLada mugiye ||
sihiyahudu kaayi haNNaage, jIvitavantu |
mahimegoLuvudu maage - mankutimma ||

Yes, life is brazen if it halts abruptly as such here.
Bitter is the  fruit which dies while being unripe.
Sweetens the fruit as it mellows, so too is life.
Attains eminence when ripens - Mankutimma.

  1. Translator's thoughts: The quatrain is very reminiscent of the lines Edgar says in Shakespeare's King Lear "Men must endure, Their going hence, even as their coming hither: Ripeness is all. Come on."
