ಉರ್ವರೆಗೆ ಗುರುವವನು - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ||

nirvikaarada nayanadim nOLpudaari ||
sarvadharmaadhaari, nirvaaNasancaari |
urvarege guruvavanu - mankutimma ||
The helpful who isn't proud, the authority who isn't egoistic,
The compassionate who sees as is - with an undistorted vision,
The pious who adores all religions, the seeker who seeks Nirvana,
Guru is he to the entire earth - Mankutimma.

Please don't translate dharma to religion. It's not the meaning of it.
ReplyDeleteI agree. That's why in the later translations, I have retained Dharma as is. Thanks for pointing this out. In fact, the trouble with translating Dharma is discussed in the Translator's ramble here - https://mankutimma-aphor.blogspot.com/p/more-on-translation_14.html
